

In 1937, with the outbreak of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, some faculty and students from the Medical College of Peiping University moved westward to establish the Medical College of Xi’an Provisional University, alongside which its affiliated hospital was founded. Through successive developments and evolutions under its predecessor institutions, including the Northwest Medical College, the Medical College of Northwest University and Xi’an Medical College, the hospital relocated to its current site in 1956 and was officially named the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Medical College. Following the merger with Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2000, it was renamed as The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University.
Through the continuous efforts of generations of medical staff, the hospital has achieved remarkable progress. It has developed into a large tertiary Grade A comprehensive hospital directly administered by the National Health Commission, integrating medical services, education, scientific research, rehabilitation, disease prevention and healthcare in Northwest China. The main campus is equipped with 2,600 authorized beds.
At the end of October 2023, the new Surgical Building of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University was officially put into operation. Covering a total construction area of 54,646 square meters with 406 inpatient beds, the building is equipped with newly developed plug-in headboard manual three-section folding hospital beds specially supplied by Helse High-tech.
